Difference between Interior Designers & Interior Decorators

‘Interior Designers’ and ‘Interior Decorators’ are terms which are interchanged freely, but the fact is that they have different roles, which should not be confused with each other. While an interior designer can also be an interior decorator, an interior decorator cannot be an interior designer.

Interior Designing
The art of creating functional spaces in an artistic way is called interior designing, whereas interior decoration consists of changing furnishings, and decorating a place with beautiful and fashionable objects. Interior designers work, keeping in mind the building structure and location of a project. They have to create interiors as per the likings and personality of members of the house, and create technical solutions, that are functional and attractive. They must also adhere to regulatory requirements, and their interior solutions should be as per environmental guidelines. In interior designing the needs and requirements of clients have to be met. Along with the creative process, lot of research, analysis, and integration of that knowledge is required.
Interior designers have to go through formal education and training, and in most places they need to have a license to practice interior designing. Interior decorators on the other hand require no formal training, or license to practice. They need to have a creative bend of mind, and awareness of latest products and fashion, in home decorating.
